The Western Michigan Broncos will travel to the Athletics Center O’rena to take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Western Michigan Broncos improved to 1-0 on the season after they defeated the NAIA Marygrove College Mustangs, 90-74m this past Friday. Western Michigan for Marygrove College into committing 24 turnovers and pulled away in the 2nd half after taking a 41-31 halftime lead. Leading the way for Western Michigan was Tucker Haymond who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Western Michigan finished the 2015-16 season with a 13-19 record however, do return four starters. Western Michigan does have one of the best players in the MAC in Thomas Wilder who averaged 18.0 ppg & 3.1 apg last season. Along with Wilder, the Broncos will rely on Tucker Haymond (15.9 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Drake LaMont (7.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg). Western Michigan looks like they will be relying heavily on freshman, Brandon Johnson, who had a double-double in the season opener and led the Broncos in minutes played.

The Oakland Golden Grizzlies opened their season with a 78-70 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons this past Friday. Oakland held the Falcons to just 35.1% shooting from the field and outrebounded Bowling Green by a 47-39 margin. Leading the way for Oakland was Matez Walker who had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block. Oakland looked good in their first game without Kay Felder (24.4 ppg, 9.3 apg, 4.3 rpg) and Percy Gibson (11.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg) and hope they can continue to bring the same defensive effort as they did against Bowling Green as the Golden Grizzlies ranked 313rd in scoring defense at 78.5 ppg last season. Oakland’s offense will be largely centered around Sherron Dorsey-Walker and Jalen Hayes. Oakland and Head Coach Greg Kampe hope that Junior College transfer, Stevie Clark, can replace Kay Felder at the point-guard position for the Golden Grizzlies.
The Broncos are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Horizon Leagues opponents however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Golden Grizzlies are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and 25-6-1 ATS in their last 32 games following a straight up win.
Western Michigan has a great duo in Thomas Wilder and Tucker Haymond however, doesn’t have much in depth after those two players. Oakland came into this season with a few question marks, especially after losing a talent like Kay Felder, however, has to be encouraged with the performance of Matez Walker and Stevie Clark. Oakland is a tough place to play and as I feel that the Golden Grizzles are just a better overall team with more depth, I think Oakland will be able to cover this mid-range spread at home. Take Oakland to cover.
