The Marist Red Foxes look to rebound when they take on the 21st ranked Rhode Island Rams on Monday night.
The Marist Red Foxes tried to hang with the Duke Blue Devils but unfortunately the game was over early as Duke steamrolled Marist by a score of 94-49. Khallid Hart ended up being the only Red Fox with double digits in the scoring column as he led the team with 13 points on 4 for 14 from the floor including only 1 make of 6 from behind the 3-point line. Even with Duke only shooting 44% from the field (I say only because you’d think it would be higher judging from the scoreline) no Marist played had more than 5 total rebounds in the game while Duke pulled down 16 offensive boards in the win. The good news? Marist made 16 of 19 free throws in the game for an 84.2% clip. The bad news? Marist made only 15 of 65 shots from the floor, resulting in a 23.1% mark, including just 12% from 3-point range.

The 21st-ranked Rhode Island Rams kicked their season off right by defeating the Dartmouth Big Green by a final score of 85-61. E.C. Matthews led the Rams with 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting including a pair of makes from behind the arc, as he was one of 4 Rams with at least 10 points in the game. Another Ram making an impact was Hassan Martin who compounded his 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 10 rebounds, 6 of which came on the offensive glass. As a team the Rams are shooting 47% from the floor, but will have to improve their 3-point shooting which stands at 25% and their free throw percentage which stands at 56.5% after Rhode Island made just 13 of 23 free throws on opening night. The Rams defense also stood out, as Rhode Island forced Dartmouth to commit 20 turnovers on the night, which undoubtedly was a contributing factor in the Rams’ victory.
Marist is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 vs. the A-10 and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 road games. Rhode Island is 13-5 ATS in their last 18 home games against a team with a losing record and 4-12-2 ATS in their last 18 games following a straight up win while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 vs. the MAAC.
At first I was thinking 21 points is a lot to give as anyone could get blown out by Duke. But then I saw how poorly Marist shot the ball. Rhode Island is no Duke, but they have a ton of talent and will be eager to show they are deserving of their top-25 spot this early in the season with a big statement win.
I’ll take Rhode Island in a rout.
