The Line: UC Irvine Anteaters -4 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The UC Irvine Anteaters and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits face off on Monday in college basketball action as both teams seek their first win of the season.
The UC Irvine Anteaters got off to a slow start against Utah State in their opener and never recovered as they lost 56-72 to start the season 0-1. UC Irvine shot a dreadful 29.5 percent from the floor including 27.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Eyassou Worku led the Anteaters scoring 11 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in 25 minutes on the floor. Ioannis Dimakopoulos had 10 points for UC Irvine, Evan leonard had 8 points, and John Edgar Jr. had 7 points. UC Irvine will need to get the shots to fall because 18 of 61 from the floor doesn’t get it done against anyone.
USA TODAY Sports
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits were in over their heads against Cal in their opener and they were stomped for a full 40 minutes losing 82-53. SDSU shot just 28.6 percent from the floor, 26.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and they were outrebounded 49-23 in the one-sided loss. Mike Daum and Reed Tellinghuisen each had 14 points to lead the way for the Jackrabbits. Tevin King had 9 points and Ian Thiesen had 8 points as South Dakota State failed to hit shots and couldn’t get the rebounds. South Dakota State made noise in the NCAA Tournament last season losing to Maryland by 5 points in an exciting game but they appear to be far from repeating that feat at this point.
UC Irvine is 4-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 4-1 against the spread following a double-digit home loss, and 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 non-conference games. South Dakota State is 7-1 against the spread in their last 8 road games against a team with a losing home record, 6-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games.
South Dakota State had the tougher opponent in their opener so I can forgive their loss a little more so I will take the points with the Jackrabbits on the road.
