The Georgetown Hoyas and the Maryland Terrapins face off on Tuesday afternoon in a regional rivalry college basketball battle.
The Georgetown Hoyas are off to a 1-0 start to the season after pounding South Carolina Upstate in their opener 105-60. Georgetown didn’t do much wrong shooting 66.7 percent from the floor and 52.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc pulling out to a 68-35 halftime lead and never looking back. Rodney Pryor led the Hoyas with 32 points including going 6 of 8 from beyond the 3-point arc. L.J. Peak had 14 points and 4 assists for Georgetown, Jessie Govan had 11 points and 6 rebounds, and Isaac Copeland and Tre Campbell each had 10 points. Georgetown looks like they aren’t going to have a lot of problems with the very weak teams but they take a big step up here.

The Maryland Terrapins are off to a 1-0 start but they were less than impressive beating American 62-56 in a game they were favored by 20.5 points. Maryland shot poorly shooting 38.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc but they outrebounded American 41-21. Melo Trimble led the Terrapins with 22 points in 34 minutes of action. Anthony Cowan had 12 points and 9 rebounds, L.G. Gill had 11 points and 6 rebounds, and Kevin Huerter had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Maryland is going to have to play better and with a leader like Trimble it isn’t a reach to say they will.
Georgetown is 5-0 against the spread against the Big Ten, 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 home games, and 3-9 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Maryland is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games, 2-5-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 2-8 against the spread against the Big East.
This game should be a close one and while I am not sure who wins, it’s a lean to Georgetown to get the win but either way I see Maryland covering the spread.
