The 5th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels improved to 2-0 on the season after they had little trouble defeating the Chattanooga Mocs, 97-57, this past Sunday. Chattanooga played the Tar Heels tough early, however, North Carolina used a 12-4 run at the end of the 1st half to take a 44-33 halftime lead and outscored the Mocs by a 53-24 margin in the 2nd half. North Carolina forced Chattanooga into committing 26 turnovers and outrebounded the Mocs by a 51-32 margin. Leading the way for North Carolina was Kennedy Meeks who had a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals. North Carolina lost Brice Johnson (17.0 ppg, 10.4 rpg) and Marcus Paige (12.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.8 apg) but does return a ton of experience in Joel Berry II (20.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg), Justin Jackson (18.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 4.5 apg), Isaiah Hicks (14.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg), and Kennedy Meeks (11.5 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 2.0 spg). Roy Williams will hope that Freshman Tony Bradley and Brandon Robinson can make contributions immediately for the Tar Heels.
The 49ers are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 Tuesday games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. Tar Heels are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
I think it would be incorrect to judge Long Beach State based of their performance against Wichita State, as I think that game showed how good the Shockers could be this year. The 49ers are going to have a good season however, at this point in the season, Long Beach State is no match against the talent that North Carolina brings to the court, and I think UNC will continue their early dominance this season and cover this large spread. Take North Carolina to cover.
