The Pacific Tigers and the Green Bay Phoenix face off on early Tuesday morning as they face off as part of ESPN’s 24 Hours of Basketball.
The Pacific Tigers started their season with a one-sided loss as they were blown out in their opener 119-80 at UCLA. Pacific shot 42.4 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent beyond the 3-point arc but they trailed 63-39 at the half and it didn’t get any better in the 2nd half against the Bruins. T.J. Wallace led the Tigers scoring 21 points in 24 minutes of action. Ray Bowles scored 14 points for Pacific, David Taylor had 11 points and 6 rebounds, and Jack Williams had 8 points as they ran into an inspired UCLA squad. Pacific has a new Head Coach in Damon Stoudamire and they may experience some growing pains early on this season.

The Green Bay Phoenix got their season started on the right foot but they played subpar competition toying with Northland in an 84-49 win. Green Bay shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while winning the battle of the board outrebounding Northland 39-28. Jamar Hurdle led the Phoenix in the win scoring 13 points in 20 minutes of action. Trevor Anderson scored 11 points with 6 assists, Khalil Small had 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Charles Cooper scored 7 points. Like most of the teams who faced a soft opponent in their opener it is tough to gauge much and we will have to see more of Green Bay until we can make a determination of where they are this season.
Pacific is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 home games, 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 games, and 4-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Green Bay is 7-1-2 against the spread in their last 10 gams, 4-0-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 6-1-1 against the spread following a win.
Green Bay has developed a reputation of winning a lot and then not coming up big in the big games and while this isn’t a big game, it is a nationally televised game where they get center stage and look for Pacific to defend the home court as these 24 Hours of Basketball games generally have a tournament like atmosphere.
