Headed our way in college basketball action on Tuesday evening, the Portland Pilots will travel to the San Jose State Event Center to visit the San Jose State Spartans.
Portland enters this game with a 1-0 record on the year, winning their opener against UC Riverside 71-55. The Pilots outscored the Highlanders 33-24 in the first half in that game, and finished things off with a 38-31 second half to complete the big win.

Alec Wintering was Portland’s big scorer in their victory, bagging 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a great game. Jazz Johnson and Gabe Taylor also finished in double-figures for the Pilots, with Johnson putting up 17 points and Taylor providing 15 points with eight rebounds and two assists.
Over on the San Jose State side, They’re also coming into this game with a 1-0 record after completely destroying WCB in their opener. In that game, the Spartans put up a 61-35 advantage at the half, then finished up with a 48-35 second half.
In the big San Jose State win, Imaan Vicente was the top scorer with 17 points, one rebound and two assists. Daniel Michael Foster was also in double-digits for the Spartans, as was Timothy Carr. Foster put up 12 points with eight rebounds and seven assists for San Jose State, while Carr posted 11 points of his own.
Portland is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600, and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games versus a team with a winning straight-up record. Portland is also 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS win, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, San Jose State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win, and 16-36-2 ATS in their last 54 home games. San Jose State is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall, and 5-16-1 ATS in their last 22 Tuesday games.
Since it’s so early on in the season, we’re still learning what these two teams will look like. Both Portland and San Jose State seemed very solid in their opening victories, and this game will go a long way toward figuring out what type of team each will be. That said, I fell like San Jose State is a little deeper at this point, and the home crowd should be able to push them toward a cover and a win.
