The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Belmont Bruins face off on Tuesday in early season college basketball action.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are licking their wounds after getting trounced in their season opener by Marquette 95-71. Vandy led by a point at the half against Marquette but they had no answers shooting 39.7 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. Luke Kornet led the Commodores with 15 points and 5 rebounds in 23 minutes of playing time. Matthew Fisher-Davis had 12 points for Vanderbilt, Jeff Roberson had 9 points and 10 rebounds, and Riley LaChance had 9 points in the losing effort. Vanderbilt simply had no answers and they hope to find some before this game.

The Belmont Bruins are playing their opening game of the season and with 4 returning starters they are favored to win the OVC and go to the NCAA Tournament. Belmont was 12th in the nation in scoring last year averaging 82.4 points and shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 36.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc but in the end they lost the conference tournament opener to Austin Peay and went to the NIT where they lost in the first round to Georgia. The key returner for the Bruins is Evan Bradds who averaged 17.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game last season. Belmont also returns Amanze Egekeze who averaged 9 points per game, Taylor Barnette who averaged 10.6 points per game, and Austin Luke who averaged 6.2 points and 6.3 assists per game. Belmont should be a better team than they were last season.
Vanderbilt is 1-4 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games and 0-4 against the spread in their last 4 games. Belmont is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 road games, 2-6 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games.
The line here looks to be way out of line and way too big as Belmont has a legitimate chance to win this game outright and if they don’t it should be very close.
