The Brown Bears will travel to the Ryan Center to take on the 21st ranked Rhode Island Rams this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Brown Bears improved to 1-1 on the season after defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 88-79, this past Sunday. Brown had a 46-36 halftime lead in this one and used a 17-10 run late in the 2nd half to help secure the victory. Brown shot an impressive 50.0% from the field and made an impressive 35 free-throws in the victory. Leading the way for Brown was Steven Spieth who had a double-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals, and a block. On the season, Brown has been led by Steven Spieth (18.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Joshua Howard (11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.5 spg), Obi Okolie (10.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg), and Tavon Blackmon (9.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.5 apg). Brown struggled last season posting just a 8-20 record and although they do return 3 starters in Tavon Blackmon, Steven Spieth, and JR Hobbie, it will be hard for the Bears to replace Cedric Kaukumensah who averaged 14.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2.7 bpg last season.

The 21st ranked Rhode Island Rams improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Marist Red Foxes, 107-65, this past Monday. Rhode Island was outstanding offensively throughout the game and had no trouble putting away the Red Foxes after taking a 59-34 lead at halftime. Rhode Island shot 56.5% from the field and 57.1% (12-21) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Rams was E.C. Matthews who had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. On the season, Rhode Island has been led by E.C. Matthews (21.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.5 spg), Hassan Martin (13.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 4.5 bpg), and Jared Terrell (13.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.5 spg). Rhode Island comes into this season with high expectations as along with returning one of the best big-man in the A-10 in Hassan Martin, the Rams got back their leader in E.C. Matthews who missed the entire season last year after getting injured in the Rams opening game. Rhode Island has one of the deepest teams in the A-10 conference this season and if they can stay healthy, they should be playing in the NCAA Tournament come March.
The Bears are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. Ivy League opponents and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
Brown has some good experience with seniors Tavon Blackmon and Steve Spieth leading the way however, Rhode Island is an experienced team that has weapons in both the backcourt and frontcourt and as Rhode Island always plays well at home, I’m taking the Rams to cover this big spread. Take Rhode Island to cover.
