The Arizona State Sun Devils face the Northern Iowa Panthers in a Thursday afternoon college basketball tilt.
The Northern Iowa Panthers are penciled in as one of the top teams in the Missouri Valley although a season opening 74-37 win versus Coe College told us absolutely nothing. UNI was ahead by 27 points in the first half which essentially ended the game. The Kohawks were held to 28% shooting and 6-26 from distances as the talent difference was enormous. On the flip side, the Panthers nailed shots at 52.6% and were 10-24 from distance with everyone on the roster seeing the floor. Bennett Koch and Jeremy Morgan scored eleven points each with Isaiah Brown tossing in ten but Northern Iowa received contributions from everywhere.

In kicking off the season with a 2-0 record the Arizona State Sun Devils have yet to be tested. A 57-36 second half run buried Cal Poly 96-74 Sunday as a 14 point favorite. The Sun Devils won the shooting battle 51%-43% but the real difference came at the stripe where 29 Mustangs fouls turned in to a 33-12 ASU advantage and was decisive. Tra Holder paced the Arizona State attack with a game high 24 points and six pulls on 7-12 shooting with Shannon Evans II right on his heals with a 20 point effort. Torian Graham gave Arizona State 18 points and seven boards on 7-12 from the field while Obinna Oleka tossed in 17 points and hauled in 13 rebounds on 4-7 shooting.
Northern Iowa are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 Thursday games and the over is 8-3 in Northern Iowa last 11 non-conference games while Northern Iowa are 35-17-4 ATS in their last 56 games overall. The over is 16-7 in Arizona State last 23 overall and the under is 25-12-1 in Arizona State last 38 Thursday games.
If Northern Iowa is the quality team that should challenge Wichita State in the MVC, they should be tough to handle here…
