The Clemson Tigers will take on the Davidson Tigers at HP Field House in the Tires Pro Invitational this Thursday morning.
The Clemson Tigers opened their season with a solid 74-64 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs this past Friday. Clemson was able to jump out to a 40-30 lead at halftime and used a 12-2 run midway through the 2nd half to help the Tigers secure the victory. Clemson shot 43.5% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 14-8 margin. Leading the way for the Tigers was Jaron Blossomgame who had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Clemson has three returning starters from last year’s 17-14 team in Jaron Blossomgame (18.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg), Donte Grantham (10.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg), and Avry Holmes (10.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.6 apg). Clemson no longer have the services of Jordan Roper (8.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.8 apg) and Landry Nnoko (8.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg), but will hope that big-man Sidy Djitte (5.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and can take on a bigger role for the Tigers this season. Clemson will hope that Robert Morris transfer Marcquise Reed and help provide some scoring from off the bench.

The Davidson Wildcats was able to kick off their 2016-17 season with a victory after defeating the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 86-74, this past Saturday. In a close, back and forth game, the Wildcats went on a 16-6 run over the final 5 minutes of play to help secure the victory. Davidson was solid on the offensive end as the Wildcats shot 47.6% from the field and 40.9% (9-22) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for Davidson was Peyton Aldridge who had 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Davidson should be one of the better teams in the A-10 this season as they return two of the better players in the conference in Jack Gibbs (23.5 ppg, 5.0 apg) and Peyton Aldridge (15.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg). Davidson no longer has long-range shooter Brian Sullivan (14.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg) however, does return Rusty Reigel, Oskar Michelsen, and Nathan Nkwu. Davidson will hope that Boston College transfer, Will Magarity will be able to help provide some size for the Wildcats in the frontcourt. Jack Gibbs didn’t play in the season opener, and although he is hopeful to play in this one, he is still listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.
The Tigers are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 Thursday games and 0-5 in their last 5 games vs. A-10 opponents. The Wildcats are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 Thursday games however, are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.
It will be important to look at the injury report in this one as this pick is probably going to depend on the status of Davidson’s Jack Gibbs. Clemson has probably the best player on the court in Jaron Blossomgame who should have a big game against the Wildcats frontcourt, however, if Gibbs plays, I think the one-two combination of Gibbs and Peyton Aldridge and the coaching of Davidson’s Bob Mckillop give the Wildcats the edge in this one. The line has yet to be released for this one due to the uncertainly of Jack Gibbs status so please check back when the line is posted.
