The UCF Knights and Charleston Cougars meet Friday night in college basketball action at the TD Arena.
The UCF Knights are off to a solid 2-0 start to the season after beating Mississippi State, 86-61. In the victory, UCF shot 50 percent from the field and grabbed 49 rebounds. Tacko Fall led the Knights with 26 points and 12 rebounds while Tanksley Efianayi had 19 points and two assists. B.J. Taylor had a double-double and Matt Williams was the fourth UCF starter to score double-digit points. UCF has won a combined 24 games the last two seasons, so a possible 3-0 start would be terrific for coach Johnny Dawkins and his team. While the season is still very early, UCF may be a team to watch in the AAC this season. The UCF Knights have split their last two neutral site games.
USA TODAY Sports
The Charleston Cougars are off to a quick 3-0 start after beating the Boise State Broncos, 60-47. Charleston allowed just 34.6 percent shooting and have now allowed 68 or less points in all three games this season. In the victory, Joe Chealey led the way with 15 points and three assists while Jarrell Brantley had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Marquise Pointer had eight points off the bench and Payton Hulsey snagged six rebounds. Charleston is proving to be a solid team defensively and could do damage in the CAA this season if that effort continues. Charleston has won a combined 26 games the last two seasons, so a possible 4-0 start here would be massive for coach Earl Grant. The Charleston Cougars have won their last six home games.
The Knights are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Friday games. The Cougars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 non-conference games. The under is 43-20 in Cougars last 63 overall and the under is 9-4 in Knights last 13 overall.
I had UCF beating Miss State yesterday as a dog and that game was over in the middle of the first half. I'm not sure the Knights win this game outright, as Charleston is a better team, but the value is on the points. UCF is long and solid defensively. As long of the Knights take care of the ball, they should be in this one until the end.
