The Saint Joseph’s Hawks and Loyola (CHI) Ramblers will travel to the Sports and Fitness Center in the Virgin Islands to face off against each other in the Paradise Jam.
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks improved to 2-0 on the season after they were able to defeat the Columbia Lions, 85-65, this past Monday. Saint Joseph’s jumped all over Columbia early in this one and had little trouble securing the victory after taking the 50-27 halftime lead. Saint Joseph’s shot an impressive 52.2% from the field and won the turnover battle by a 15-8 margin. Leading the way for the Hawks was Lamarr Kimble who had 19 points, 8 assists, and 3 rebounds. Offensively, Saint Joseph’s is averaging 81.0 ppg on 50.0% shooting from the field. Saint Joseph’s had done a nice job winning the turnover battle early in the season as they currently have a turnover margin of +5.5. Leading the way for the Hawks on the season has been Shavar Newkrik (22.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.5 apg), Lamarr Kimble (17.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 5.5 apg), James Demery (11.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg), and Charlie Brown (10.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.5 apg). The Loyola (CHI) Ramblers improved to 3-0 on the season after they beat the D-III Eureka Red Devils, 97-59, this past Monday. Loyola (CHI) used an 11-4 run to help take a 45-37 lead at halftime and was outstanding on both sides of the ball in the 2nd half to pull away for the blowout victory. Loyola (CHI) shot 55.2% from the field and outrebounded the Red Devils by a 48-25 margin. Leading the way for the Ramblers was Milton Doyle who had 16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Offensively, Loyola (CHI) is averaging 88.7 ppg on 54.6% shooting from the field and 37.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Ramblers on the season has been Milton Doyle (16.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 5.7 apg), Aundre Jackson (12.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.3 spg), Clayton Custer (11.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 4.0 apg), and Donte Ingram (8.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.0 apg). Defensively, Loyola (CHI) is holding their opponents to an average of 51.3 ppg on 34.7% shooting from the field. Loyola (CHI) currently is averaging 8.7 steals per game and have a turnover margin of +6.3.
The Hawks are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games and 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games. The Ramblers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win however, just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games.
Saint Joseph’s entered this season with a lot of questions as they lost their two best players from last year’s 28-8 team in DeAndre Bembry (17.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg) and Isaiah Miles (18.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg). Loyola (CHI) has a great player in Milton Doyle and with Iowa State transfer Clayton Custer and junior-college transfer Aundre Jackson playing at a high level, the Ramblers could be a tougher out in the MVC than we’ve seen in the past few years. Loyola (CHI) early season statistics are misleading due to the competition that they’ve faced so far, however, as Saint Joseph’s is not the same team without Bembry and Miles, I think Loyola (CHI) will be able to cover at home with the points.
