The Western Michigan Broncos and UTEP Miners meet Friday in college basketball action at the TD Arena.
The Western Michigan Broncos hope to bounce back after losing to the Villanova Wildcats, 65-76. Western Michigan hung around with the No. 3 team in the country due to 50 percent shooting, but 18 turnovers and just three made threes doomed the Broncos. Thomas Wilder led WMU with 19 points and two assists while Josh Davis had 14 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Seth Dugan also chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort. Western Michigan wasn’t expected to beat a team such as Villanova, but the fact the Broncos competed with the Wildcats has to be a confidence booster for a team that has nine freshmen on its roster. The Western Michigan Broncos have lost three of their last four neutral site games.

The UTEP Miners also look for a bounce back victory after getting beat up by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 81-103. In the loss, UTEP allowed 59.3 percent shooting and 13 made threes, a formula that’s not going to produce much winning. The bright side for UTEP is that Dominic Artis had 24 points and six assists while Omega Harris had 16 points and two rebounds. Matt Willms was the third Miners’ starter to produce double-digit points. UTEP has scored a combined 169 points in its first two games and that’s and that’s great news for a roster that includes 11 underclassmen. However, the Miners better buckle up defensively or it’ll be a long year in the C-USA. The UTEP Miners have won three of their last five neutral site games.
The Broncos are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 neutral site games and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Friday games. The Miners are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The over is 9-3-1 in Miners last 13 overall and the under is 4-1 in Broncos last 5 overall.
The Western Michigan Broncos will be able to use their close contest against Villanova as a building block moving forward and can start by beating on a subpar UTEP squad. The Broncos have shown more so far this season and will be the motivated team here given the youth and eager to prove itself. Give me WMU and the small line.
