Over at Maples Pavilion on Sunday, we’ve got a fun college basketball matchup looming between the Colorado State Rams and the Stanford Cardinal.
Colorado State enters play here with a 2-0 record on the young season, following victories against New Mexico State 64-61 and Ft. Lewis 84-75 on Wednesday. In that game, the Rams had a bit more than they bargained for from a Division II foe, and fell behind 31-30 after the first half.
USA TODAY Sports
Through two games so far, Che Bob is the Rams’ leading scorer on 15.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Braden Koelliker is playing solid as well with 14.5 PPG and 10.0 RPG for Colorado State. Emmanuel Omogbo is another player averaging in double figures for the Rams, with 14.0 PPG and 12.0 RPG.
Over on the Stanford side, they’re entering play here with a 3-0 record on the year following wins over Harvard 80-70, Cal State Northridge 96-69 and Weber St. 67-49. Reid Travis led the way in that game, scoring 22 points and hauling in 15 rebounds.
Travis is the Cardinal’s top scorer so far through three games, bagging 21.7 PPG and 12.3 RPG. Dorian Pickens and Michael Humphrey are also averaging in double figures; Pickens has 12.0 PPG with 3.7 RPG and Humphrey has 103 PPG with 3.7 RPG.
Colorado State is 18-39-1 ATS in their last 58 games following a straight-up win, and 2-6 ATS in their last eight versus the Pac-12. Colorado State is also 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, and 0-6 ATS in their last six Sunday games.
Meanwhile, Stanford is 6-0 ATS in their last six home games, and 5-0 ATS in their last five versus Mountain West. Stanford is also 7-2 ATS in their last nine non-conference games, and 1-7 ATS in their last eight Sunday games.
Stanford has played pretty well through their first three games, but this will likely be the toughest test they’ve faced on the young season. I’m not too keen on the Cardinal’s lack of depth scoring, and it seems like Colorado State has a more balanced attack going in these early games. With a well-rounded effort and a strong presence on the glass, I think the Rams can cover here.
