The #6 North Carolina Tar Heels face the Chaminade Silverswords in the Maui Classic in college basketball action on Monday.
This might be the last time the Chaminade Silverswords will be in the national spotlight as they won’t participate in the Maui Classic anytime in the immediate future. The Silverswords are known for their ability to nail the outside shot and enter the tournament following a 92-81 victory versus Alaska-Anchorage who is ranked #12 in their division. Chaminade dominated the shooting stats 54%-43% and were 13-27 from long range as they will shoot from the perimeter regardless of the score. Rohndell Goodwin was the Swords offensive star with 29 points on 12-21 followed by Kiran Shastri and Dantley Walker with 19 points apiece on 11-19 while Austin Pope chipped in with ten points.

The #6 North Carolina Tar Heels have been looking like the real deal in building a 4-0 record. The Tar Heels have been getting solid efforts at both ends of the floor and any kind of defense makes this a tough team to compete with. UNC comes off an 83-68 victory against Hawaii as a 25 point favorite as they held the Warriors to 43% from the field and countered at 47.8% with seven more looks at the basket which added up to six more field goals. Isaiah Hicks paced the North Carolina attack with 16 points and five yanks with Nate Britt and Kennedy Meeks tossing in 13 points apiece while Justin Hicks and Tony Bradley combined for 21 points with the latter snagging 13 rebounds.
There are never any real trends involving subdivision Chaminade but there are a few things I have learned after watching them in this tournament. North Carolina will score at will and there is no way the smaller Silverswords will stop them in the paint or compete on the backboards. The Tar Heels will name the score if they desire and this looks like an over bet or North Carolina team total over, whatever it is…
