The George Mason Patriots and the Houston Cougars tangle in college basketball on Monday.
The George Mason Patriots lone win has come against a subdivision squads but I will give them the benefit of the doubt until we see more of them. The Patriots come off of a 78-76, overtime loss to Mount St. Mary’s on Friday. Even though the Patriots won the shooting battle 49%-44% they were mistake prone with 16 turnovers and managed nine more looks at the basket which were put to good use. GM leaned on the offense of Jalen Jenkins who poured in a game high 23 points and snagged eleven boards on 11-14 shooting with Marquise Moore dropping 20 points and hauling in 13 rebounds. Otis Livingston II and Jaire Grayer combined for 17 points but the Patriots needed more balance.

The Houston Cougars are supposed to be a team to watch but I don’t know If this is true after a 2-0 start to the year against weak competition means much. The Cougars defeated Angelo State 84-72 on Wednesday which honestly wasn’t the rout I had expected. UH did sink half their looks and held the Rams to 38% from the field but 21 giveaways and Angelo State going to the line were not good signs. Damyean Dotson led Houston with a game high 20 points on 5-9 from the floor with Rob Gray Jr. tossing in 15 points on 6-9 accuracy. Galen Robinson Jr. added eleven points while Morris Dunnigan and Danrad Knowles combined for 17 points with Knowles grabbing eight boards.
The over is 14-5 in George Mason last 10 overall and Houston are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. Atlantic 10.
Neither team has proven a thing in the early going so to me that means wait and see what happens in the coming weeks…
