South Dakota held a 32-22 lead at halftime and put the game away in mid-way through the 2nd half after the Coyotes went on a 18-0 run. South Dakota was outstanding on the defensive end as they held the Tigers to 32.8% shooting from the field and 16.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Coyotes was Trey Dickerson who had 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. On the season, South Dakota is averaging 84.0 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field and 33.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, the Coyotes have been led by Trey Burch-Manning (14.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.5 apg), Tyler Flack (12.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.5 bpg), Matt Mooney (11.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.3 spg), and Carlton Hurst (10.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg). The Golden Flashes are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points, however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The Coyotes are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games however, just 1-4 ATS in their last games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.
Kent State finished last season with a 19-13 record and even though they returned one of the best players in the MAC in Jimmy Hall, the Golden Flashes entered the season with many questions after Kellon Thomas and Raasean Davis decided to transfer before the season. South Dakota basically lost their entire team from last season as their top-5 players in terms of minutes play, are no longer with the Coyotes, however South Dakota did return the talented Tyler Flack and brought in experience with transfers Matt Mooney (Air Force) and Carlton Hurst (Colorado State). This should be a close game as both teams have been solid on the defensive end to begin the season, however, I’m going to the back Kent State to cover the small spread in this one as I just don’t see how the Coyotes will be able to slow down the Jimmy Hall. Take Kent State to cover.
