We’ve got a great college basketball matchup coming up from the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Mexico on Tuesday as the Texas Tech Red Raiders clash with the Auburn Tigers.
Texas Tech enters play here with a 3-0 record on the young season. The Red Raiders took out Houston Baptist in the opener 93-67, then mowed down North Texas 70-43 before beating Eastern Kentucky 90-71 this past Saturday. In that one, Texas Tech took a 46-41 lead at the half and outscored Eastern Kentucky 44-30 in the second half.
USA TODAY Sports
So far this year, both Aaron Ross and Keenan Evans are averaging 14.0 PPG for Texas Tech, with Ross adding 4.7 RPG and 2.3 APG. Shadell MIllinghaus and Anthony Livingston are also averaging in double figures for the Red Raiders; Millinghaus has 12.7 PPG with 4.3 RPG while Livingston is sitting on 12.0 PPG and 6.0 RPG.
Over on the Auburn side, they’re coming into this game with a 3-0 record as well. The Tigers took out North Florida 83-66, then Georgia State 83-65 before beating Eastern Kentucky 85-64 back on Thursday. Auburn didn’t have much trouble in that one thanks to a Mustapha Heron double-double (24 points; 10 rebounds).
Heron is averaging 14.7 PPG with 7.0 RPG for the Tigers, but Danjel Purifoy leads the scoring on 16.3 PPG with 5.3 RPG. Jared Harper and Bryce Brown are also in double figures for Auburn, with Harper on 11.7 PPG and Brown on 10.0.
Auburn is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win, and 7-18-2 ATS in their last 27 neutral-site games. Auburn is also 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the Big 12, and 1-5 ATS in their last six Tuesday games.
As for Texas Tech, they’re 6-2 ATS in their last eight games versus a team with a winning straight-up record, and 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games following a straight-up win. Texas Tech is also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and 10-25-1 ATS in their last 36 neutral-site games.
Neither Texas Tech nor Auburn has seen much of a challenge yet in this young year, so this game will go a long way toward seeing what each team is about. It should be a reasonably close game, but I like Texas Tech’s scoring balance and depth a little more right now. I’ll take the Red Raiders to cover.
