The Chaminade Silverswords and the UConn Huskies face off on Tuesday in the Maui Jim Invitational college basketball tournament.
The Chaminade Silverswords are 0-1 this season as they opened their season with a blowout los at the hands of North Carolina. Chaminade was simply no match for UNC as they shot 36.2 percent from the floor and 35.7 percent from beyond the 3-point arc as they lost 61-104. Rohndell Goodwin led the Silverswords with 18 points in 29 minutes of action. Kiran Shastri had 13 points for Chaminade, Austin pope had 12 points, and Kuany Kuany had 10 points. While Chaminade is the tournament hosts they are clearly no match for this year’s deep and talented field.

UConn Huskies are 1-3 this season and they landed in this game after losing to Oklahoma State 90-98 in their opening round game. Connecticut is averaging 68.5 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor and 32.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while defensively they are allowing 72.8 points and their opponents are shooting 39.7 percent. Jalen Adams leads the Huskies averaging 16.8 points per game. Terry Larrier is averaging 13.5 points and 5 rebounds, Alterique Gilbert is averaging 10.3 points, and Rodney Purvis is averaging 9.3 points. UConn is normally a beast when it comes to tournaments but this year’s team just doesn’t seem to have it.
This is just a bad game and while UConn has played poorly so far they still have a lot of talent on the roster and with that alone it should carry them here. While this is a great chance for Chaminade to play top tier teams they just don’t stack up.
