The Cornell Big Red faceoff with the Monmouth Hawks in college basketball action Tuesday.
The Cornell Big Red are picked to finish somewhere in the middle of the Ivy League but their schedule hasn’t been difficult and they haven’t been winning. The Big Red kicked off the year with three straight defeats before winning at Lafayette 82-75 on Sunday. Cornell was up 12 at the half and fended off a Leopards comeback behind a 51.7%-47.5% shooting edge and a blistering 14-25 performance on threes. Donovan Wright poured in a game high 26 points on 8-10 on threes with Matt Morgan giving Cornell 13 points. Robert Hatter and Stone Gettings gave the Big Red 12 points apiece while Jolo Falas chipped in with another eleven points.

The Monmouth Hawks were the 900 pound gorilla in the MAAC last season and many expect an encore performance although repeating what they did would be a tough accomplishment. The 1-2 Hawks have dropped back to back contests following a 71-50 defeat at Syracuse where the offense struggled to make shots at 31%. The Orange connected at 42% but sank more shots, including threes and free throws. The Hawks only had one double digit scorer in Justin Robinson on 4-16 from the floor including 1-10 from beyond the arc. Collin Stewart and Micah Seaborn combined for 15 points but Monmouth obviously needed more scoring options.
The under is 10-3 in Monmouth last 13 home games and the under is 6-2 in Monmouth last 8 overall while the under is 8-3 in Monmouth last 11 non-conference games.
I don’t see any reason to bet the house on this one and I’m not touching it at all with no obvious edge…
