The George Washington Colonials and UAB Blazers clash Tuesday in college basketball action at the Sprint Center.
The George Washington Colonials look for a bounce back performance after losing to the Georgia Bulldogs, 73-81. In the loss, George Washington allowed 48.3 percent shooting and forced just seven turnovers. Tyler Cavanaugh led the way with 21 points and six rebounds while Matt Hart had 17 points and two assists. Yuta Watanabe was the third starter to score double-digit points and Patrick Steeves had eight points off the bench. George Washington has allowed 71 or more points in three of its first four games, something that can’t make coach Maurice Joseph too pleased. However, the Colonials have shown the ability to fill it up and are giving some of their young guys valuable experience for one A-10 play rolls around. The George Washington Colonials have won four of their last seven neutral site games.
USA TODAY Sports
The UAB Blazers hope for a bounce back performance after getting beatdown by the Kansas Jayhawks, 63-83. In the loss, UAB shot 35.7 percent from the field and had 20 turnovers. Dirk Williams led the Blazers with 13 points and two assists while Tyler Madison had 12 points and two rebounds. Tosin Mehinti was the third UAB double-digit scorer and Chris Cokley had four rebounds. UAB has to feel it can compete at a higher level if it simply takes care of the basketball, and this is an experienced Blazers squad with just four underclassmen on the roster. Defense has also been an issue for UAB, as it’s allowed a combined 117 points in its two wins and 167 points in its two losses. The UAB Blazers have lost four straight neutral site games.
The Blazers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Colonials are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Tuesday games and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 vs. Conference USA. The over is 8-2 in Colonials last 10 overall and the under is 38-15-1 in Blazers last 54 non-conference games.
The experience of UAB should get them through this game and they'll be fine as long as they take care of the basketball. I have more confidence in UAB bouncing back after a tough loss than I do George Washington.
