The Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves butt heads with the Buffalo Bulls in Tuesday college basketball.
The #12 Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves (DII) open the Great Alaskan Shootout with Buffalo on Tuesday. The Seawolves are a relative unknown as a Division II squad but this is their chance to shine on the national stage but the question is the size and talent of the DI schools too much to compete with. The team does have some size but they are driven by guard Sekou Wiggs and his 23 point average while 6-10 center Connor Devine gives the Seawolves scoring at over ten points and rebounding at almost six per game and his 1.5 BPG is none to shabby. 6-6 forward Corey Hammell is good for eleven points and nearly ten rebounds and is a match up problem while guard Spencer Svejcar gives AA another ten points and four boards so taking this team lightly is not wise.

The 2-1 Buffalo Bulls prepped for the tournament by scheduling subdivision Nazereth College and it probably went exactly as wanted in an 85-36 decision that was never a worry. The Golden Flyers could not match the Bulls size, speed and overall talent with UB firing away an nearly 60% while allowing 26% for 17 more field goals while owning a +24 on the backboards. Nick Perkins led the Buffalo offense with a contest high 21 points and eight rebounds on 8-11 shooting with Willie Connor tossing in 15.Ikenna Smart and Quate McKinzie each scored nine points followed by an eight point, eleven assist performance by Blake Hamilton.
There aren’t many trends that we see that can be used when a Div II and DI team meet but there is always the element of surprise as teams want to see how they compare. My belief is Alaska-Anchorage might have a chip on their shoulder and Buffalo will get their best shot. Perhaps the points here but get as many as possible…
