The Butler Bulldogs put their undefeated record on the line when they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in semi-final action in the Las Vegas Invitational.
The Butler Bulldogs won their 4th straight game to start the year with a 91-55 dismantling of Norfolk State. The wealth was spread evenly amongst the Bulldogs as no Butler player exceeded 23 minutes of floor time and all but one Bulldog had a basket on the night. Nate Fowler led the way with 17 points on 6 of 7 from the floor, including a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe to go along with 7 rebounds. Avery Woodson made 5 of his 10 3-point attempts for 15 points in the game while Andrew Chrabascz and Martin each put up 11 points in the win. Chrabascz did his damage on 4 of 6 from the field, making both of his 3-point attempts while Martin made just 4 of 9, including a pair of 3s of his own. Rounding out the group was Joey Brunk who was perfect in 3 attempts from the floor to go along with 4 makes in 5 trips to the foul line. As a team, Butler is scoring 84 points per game on 52.8% shooting from the field, the 15th-best mark in the entire nation, 38.9% from behind the arc and 67.9% from the free throw line. Defensively, Butler is just outside of the top-20 allowing just 58.8 points per game.

The Vanderbilt Commodores fell to 2-2 after dropping a narrow 75-72 decision to the Bucknell Bison. Matthew Fisher-Davis bolstered his team-lead in points per game with 23 in the loss on 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 7 from downtown and 5 of 7 from the free throw line. Fisher-Davis led a trio of Commodores who logged double figures in the scoring column, with Luke Kornet putting up 19 points on 8 of 14 from the floor, with a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws to go along with his team-high 6 rebounds and Riley LaChance who nailed 4 of 7 on the night, including a pair of 3-pointers to accompany his team-high 6 assists. Jeff Roberson and Nolan Cressler both fell just 2 points shy of joining the club as each secured 8 points on the night. Outside of the starting rotation, the bench put up just 4 points on 2 of 12 from the field. As a team, Vandy is scoring 74.5 points per game on 42.5% from the field, 38.6% from downtown and 76.6% from the charity stripe.
Butler is 36-13-2 ATS in their last 51 neutral site games and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 non-conference games. Vanderbilt is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 37-16-4 in their last 57 games after a loss.
The neutral floors have treated Vandy and Butler completely different. Butler excels at a neutral site, while Vandy appears to struggle. There is only so much that the Commodores starting 5 can do, and if their bench can’t support, Butler could run away with this one. The Bulldogs have way too much depth for Vandy to handle and I think they use that to go to 5-0.
Lay the points with Butler.
