The Wyoming Cowboys will travel to the Haas Pavilion to take on the California Golden Bears this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Wyoming Cowboys had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 3-1 on the season after being defeated by the Pacific Tigers, 73-65, this past Tuesday. Wyoming was able to fight back to make it a 61-60 game late after being down for the majority of the 2nd half however, allowed the Tigers to go on a quick 7-0 run, in which the Cowboys couldn’t recover. Wyoming struggled offensively as they shot just 33.3% from the field and 19.2% (5-26) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cowboys was Jason McManamen who had 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. On the season, Wyoming is averaging 75.8 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Cowboys are averaging 9.5 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wyoming has been led by Jason McManamen (17.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 spg), Justin James (14.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.8 apg), Alexander Aka Gorski (11.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.5 apg), and Alan Herndon (9.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.5 apg). Defensively, Wyoming is holding their opponents to an average of 65.3 ppg on 36.9% shooting from the field.

The California Golden Bears dropped to 2-1 on the season after being defeated by the San Diego State Aztecs, 77-65, this past Monday. California struggled offensively in the 1st half and couldn’t fight back after being down by a 42-25 margin at halftime. California shot just 32.1% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 16-5 margin. Leading the way for the Golden Bears was Charlie Moore who had 17 points and 2 assists. On the season, California is averaging 74.0 ppg on 39.1% shooting from the field. The Golden Bears average 8.0 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, California has been led by Charlie Moore (20.3 ppg, 2.0 rpg), Ivan Rabb (19.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 2.0 bpg), Jabari Bird (14.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg), and Grant Mullins (9.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.5 apg). Defensively, California is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 36.6% shooting from the field. California has been one of the best teams on the boards this season as they ranked T-4th in College Basketball with a rebound margin of 18.0.
The Cowboys are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. Pac-12 opponents and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games. The Golden Bears are 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 home games however, just 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Wyoming brings back a bunch of experience from last year’s 14-18 team however, the Cowboys no longer have the services of Josh Adams (24.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.3 apg) and could have trouble finding ways to score the basketball this season. California lost a bunch of a talent from last year’s squad but do return Jabari Bird and Ivan Rabb and should be once again very tough on the defensive end. Wyoming generally struggles away from home and as they just don’t have much in scoring outside of Jason McManamen, I think California wins by double-digits in this one. The line has yet to be released however, unless the Golden Bears are favored by a ridiculous number, I’m leaning towards taking California in this one.
