Down at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium on Saturday, we’ve got college basketball action on the horizon between the UNCW Seahawks and the Evansville Purple Aces.
UNC Wilmington enters this game with a 3-1 record. The Seahawks won their first three games 110-64 against Claflin, 78-69 against Eastern Kentucky in overtime, and 68-59 versus Eastern Tennessee State. In Friday’s matchup against Middle Tennessee, the Seahawks dropped one 63-68.

Keying the Seahawks’ success this year, we’ve got a quartet of notable players. Carrying double-digit averages for UNC Wilmington coming into Friday’s game were Chris Flemmings (20.3 PPG; 8.3 RPG), CJ Bryce (19.0 PPG; 6.0 RPG) Devnontae Cacok (15.0 PPG; 12.3 RPG) and Denzel Ingram (10.0 PPG; 6.3 APG). In the Middle Tennessee game, Flemmings bagged 14 points with three rebounds and two assists, but Denzel Ingram led the Seahawks in points with 19 for the game.
Over on the Evansville side, they’re entering play here with a 2-2 record on the season. The Aces dropped their opener to Louisville 78-47, but then won their next two 82-59 versus Alcorn and 69-56 versus Morehead. In the Toledo game Friday, Evansville lost another one with an 83-79 defeat by the Rockets.
Two players have been key for Evansville in the early-going this year. Jaylon Brown was averaging 12.0 PPG heading into Friday, while Rayn Taylor had posted 13.0 PPG with 3.3 RPG. In the Toledo game, Brown led the way with a great game on 39 points and 11 rebounds with four steals, while Taylor was a little more subdued on just eight points and two rebounds for the Purple Aces.
NC Wilmington is 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus a team with a winning percentage above .600, and 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus a team with a winning straight-up record. UNC Wilmington is also 5-0 ATS in their last five non-conference games, and the under is 4-0 in the Seahawks’ last four neutral-site games.
As for Evansville, they’re 7-1 ATS in their last eight Saturday games, and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games versus a team with a wining percentage above .600. Evansville is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games versus a team with a winning straight-up record, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Evansville has gone pretty much to the script in their games this season, dropping when they’re outmatched and playing according to ability otherwise. UNC Wilmington, on the other hand, has shown some real promise in the early-going, and has been getting a nice even performance across the board from their roster. I like the Seahawks to pull this one out and cover in a pretty basic game.
