The George Washington Colonials look to snap their losing streak when the Penn State Nittany Lions come to town on Saturday afternoon.
The Penn State Nittany Lions look to gain some momentum after snapping a 2-game losing streak. They got out of it by defeating Colgate by a final score of 72-59. Payton Banks led PSU with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting, with 4 3-pointers and 4 of 5 from the foul line. Shep Garner, the Nittany Lions’ leading scorer, put up just 10 points, making 3 of 7 from behind the arc while Tony Carr and Terrence Samuel were the other two Nittany Lions in double figures in the win. Carr put up 14 points while pulling down a team-high 7 boards while Samuel logged 16 points on 4 of 7 from the field while making 7 of 8 from the foul line. Garner leads the team with 15 points per game, Mike Watkins is the team’s leading rebounder with 6.7 rebounds per game and Tony Carr leads PSU with 3.8 assists per game. As a team, Penn State is scoring 73 points per game on 42.1% from the field and 34.8% from behind the arc, while holding the 14th-best free throw percentage in the country, making 80% of their attempts from the charity stripe this season.
USA TODAY Sports
The George Washington Colonials look to snap out of a mini 2-game losing streak after falling to UAB by a final score of 81-74. GW leading scorer Tyler Cavanaugh put up a team-high 19 points on 8 of 18 with 3 for 3 from the foul line to go along with 13 rebounds, his 3rd double-double of the season. Yuta Watanabe came second with 18 points on 5 of 12 and 6 of 7 from the foul line while Jaren Sina finished as the 3rd and final Colonial to hit double figures with 16 points on the night. The struggles for GW can be attributed to their sharing of the ball, as the Colonials racked up just 8 assists as a team in the loss. Cavanaugh’s double-double surely helps bolster his team-leading 18.8 points and 9 rebounds per game while also sharing the team lead in assists with Jaren Sina as each is putting up 2.6 assists per game. As a team, George Washington is putting up 72 points per game on 41.2% from the field, 30.4% from 3-point range and 73.9% from the foul line.
Penn State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. the A-10 while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 overall. George Washington is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. the Big Ten and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall.
Penn State’s last win may have some against a weaker team like Colgate, but at least they snapped their skid. George Washington dropped a pair of games to teams that I feel are weaker than this Penn State squad, which makes me lean towards the Nittany Lions.
