The La Salle Explorers look for their first road win of the season as they visit the Drexel Dragons on Sunday afternoon.
The La Salle Explorers look for some consistency as they’ve alternated wins and losses in their first 3 games this season. Their most recent outing resulted in a slim 77-76 defeat at the hands of Texas Southern. La Salle’s leading scorer, B.J. Johnson had an extremely efficient night in leading the Explorers, putting up 24 points on 6 of 8 from the floor with a perfect 3 for 3 from downtown and 9 for 9 from the foul line. Coming up 2nd was Cleon Roberts, who made all 6 of his field goal attempts on the night, including 4 3-pointers of his own for 16 points. After Roberts, not one La Salle player hit double figures in the game. As previously mentioned, B.J. Johnson leads La Salle with 18.7 points per game while Pookie Powell leads the Explorers with 6.3 rebounds and 5 assists per game. As a team, La Salle is scoring 80.7 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the floor, 35.5% from beyond the arc and 79.1% from the free throw line, the 19th-best free throw percentage in the nation.

The Drexel Dragons look to rebounds after having their mini 2-game win streak snapped, after falling to Niagara by a final score of 93-74. Drexel’s leading scorer this season, Rodney Williams made 4 of 7 from the field and went 5 for 5 from the line for 13 points. However it was Sammy Mojica who led the Dragons with 17 points on 7 for 17 shooting with a pair of threes to his credit to go along with a share of the team-high with 7 rebounds. Austin Williams also pulled down 7 boards, but offensively had arguably the most efficient night, making 7 of his 8 field goal attempts for 16 points on the night. The aforementioned Williams leads Drexel with 17.4 points per game and is 3rd on the team with 6.8 rebounds per game, behind Sammy Mojica who is pulling down 7.2 boards and Austin Williams who is pulling down 7 rebounds on average this season. Kurk Lee leads Drexel with 4.6 assists per game. As a team, Drexel is racking up 75 points per game on 41.4% from the field, 31.4% from behind the arc and 65.6% from the charity stripe.
La Salle is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, 0-8 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. the CAA. Drexel is 17-37-3 ATS in their last 57 home games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. the A-10 while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 non-conference games. The Road team has covered the spread in each of the last 4 meetings.
La Salle in their 3 games have played a tougher schedule than Drexel has all season in my opinion, so the Explorers should be well prepared for the Dragons. I have this game being tight from beginning to end, and if that’s the case, I trust La Salle at the free throw line way more than I do Drexel.
It’s a lean, but I’ll side with the Explorers on the road.
