Coming up on Sunday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, we’ve got college basketball action looming between the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee comes into this game with a 2-3 record on the year. The Panthers started out with a win 88-58 over Milwaukee School of Engineering, but then rattled off losses 68-54 to Memphis, 77-59 to DePaul and 86-62 versus East Tennessee State. In the UC Irvine game Saturday, the Panthers got back on the winning track with a 54-37 victory.

Leading the way for Milwaukee so far are Brock Stull and Cody Wichmann; Heading into the weekend, Stull was averaging 11.0 PPG with 6.7 RPG, while Wichmann held 9.7 PPG and 3.0 RPG. During the UC Irvine game, Stull put up 11 points with four rebounds and three assists, while Wichmann managed six points and eight rebounds.
Over on the South Dakota State side, they’re coming into Sunday with a 1-6 record. The Jackrabbits dropped their first two games 82-53 against California and 73-58 against UC Irvine, but won against Wayne State 80-72. South Dakota then rattled off three losses 77-67 against Wyoming, 96-89 (OT) versus Idaho and 63-52 versus UC Irvine. In the East Tennessee State game, the Jackrabbits fell 71-59.
So far this year, Mike Daum and Reed Tellinghuisen have been doing most of the scoring for South Dakota State. Daum had 19.5 PPG with 9.5 RPG heading into the weekend, while Tellinghuisen had 11.3 PPG and 4.7 RPG for the Jackrabbits. In the East Tennessee matchup Saturday, Daum put up 17 points with nine rebounds, while Tellinghuisen managed 15 points and five rebounds.
The Panthers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games, and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Sunday games. Milwaukee is also 1-4 ATS in their last five versus Summit, and the over is 5-1 in the Panthers’ last six versus Summit.
Meanwhile, South Dakota State is 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games versus a team with a losing straight-up record, and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games. South Dakota State is also 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall, and 0-5 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
There’s not much to get too jazzed about in this game. Neither team has a whole lot of promise, and they’re both top-heavy in scoring. Still, I like Milwaukee a little better as they’ve got at least some semblance of balance across their lineup. I’ll take the Panthers here, provided the line doesn't end up being too bad.
