The Toledo Rockets will face off with the UNC Wilmington Seahawks at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium this Sunday afternoon in the Challenge In Music City.
The Toledo Rockets dropped to 3-3 on the season after being defeated by the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, 73-70 in OT, yesterday afternoon. Toledo wasn’t able to hold on to a 30-22 halftime lead and couldn’t slow down the Blue Raiders JaCorey Williams in the OT period in the loss. Toledo allowed Middle Tennessee State to shoot 44.6% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 16-4 margin. Leading the way for the Rockets was Steve Taylor Jr. who had a double-double with 14 points, 17 rebounds, and 5 assists. On the season, Toledo is averaging 82.8 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Rockets are averaging 7.6 three-pointers on 33.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Toledo has been led by Jonathan Williams (16.2 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.7 apg), Steve Taylor Jr. (16.0 ppg, 13.7 rpg, 4.2 apg), Jaelan Sanford (13.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.8 apg), and Daniel Dzierzawski (8.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg). Defensively, Toledo is allowing their opponents to average 82.4 ppg on 46.8% shooting.

The UNC Wilmington Seahawks improved to 4-1 on the season after defeating the Evansville Purple Aces, 65-62, last night. In a back and forth game, UNC Wilmington’ Denzel Ingram hit a 3-pointer in the closing season of regulation to get the Seahawks the victory. UNC Wilmington shot 41.2% from the field and 40.0% (10-25) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Denzel Ingram who had 16 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds. On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 79.8 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 29.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Chris Flemmings (18.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.8 spg), C.J. Bryce (15.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 2.4 apg), Denzel Ingram (13.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 5.2 apg), and Devontae Cacok (10.4 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.6 bpg). Defensively, UNC Wilmington is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field.
The Rockets are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 neutral site games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Seahawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
UNC Wilmington finished last season with a 25-8 record and returned 4 starters from a team that almost upset Duke in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Toledo has done a nice job of putting points up on the board however, the Rockets have struggled on the defensive end as they rank T-321st in scoring defense and 296th in FG%. Toledo has kept games close this season as they’ve already played in 3 OT’s, however, UNC Wilmington is one of the better mid-major teams in the country this season led by Chris Flemmings, and I think the Seahawks will win this one by about 7-10 points. This one has yet to be lined, but I’m leaning towards UNC Wilmington in this one.
