We’ve got a great-looking college basketball matchup coming our way from John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville on Wednesday, as the Ohio State Buckeyes visit the Virginia Cavaliers.
Ohio State enters play here with a 6-0 record on the year. The Buckeyes have recorded victories over Navy, North Carolina Central, Providence, Western Carolina, Jackson State and Marshall to start out the season.

Ohio State has a great roster of players at their disposal, with six players averaging in double-figures this year for scoring. Jae’Sean Tate (14.3 PPG; 7.0 RPG), Kam Williams (13.7 PPG), Marc Loving (11.5 PPG; 5.5 RPG), Jaquan Lyle (11.3 PPG), Keita Bates-Diop (10.3 PPG; 6.7 RPG) and Trevor Thompson (10.0 PPG; 7.5 RPG) are all playing well for the Buckeyes.
As for Virginia, they’re also coming into this game with a 6-0 record so far. The Cavaliers have beaten UNCG, St. Francis Brooklyn, Yale, Grambling State, Iowa and Providence to start out the year with a bang.
Leading the way in scoring for Virginia is Austin Nichols, with 11.0 PPG and 3.0 RPG, but he’s only played in one game. Darius Thompson has been a more consistent contributor, averaging 10.0 PPG for Virginia thus far. Jarred Reuter is the Cavaliers’ leading rebounder with 5.2 RPG and 7.0 PPG on the season.
Ohio State is 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 versus the ACC, and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games. Ohio State is also 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall, and 7-22-1 ATS in their last 30 road games.
As for Virginia, they’re 4-0 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss, and 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 home games. Virginia is also 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games, and 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
This should be a fun game to watch, as both teams will be coming in confident. That said, I like Ohio State much better here, and it only takes a cursory glance at their roster to see why. The Buckeyes are leagues deeper than the Cavaliers, and can look to a long list of players for scoring contributions. Give me Ohio State.
