Coming up on Friday from Assembly Hall in Bloomington, we’ve got college basketball activity between the SIU Edwardsville Cougars and the Indiana Hoosiers.
SIU Edwardsville comes into this game with a 4-3 record on the season. The Cougars won their first pair of games against Hawaii and Florida Atlantic, then dropped three in a row to Texas State, Southern Illinois and Arkansas State. SIU Edwardsville bounced back with wins in their last two games against IUPUI and Grand Canyon, though.
USA TODAY Sports
So far this season, Tre Harris leads the Cougars in scoring with 13.9 PPG and 3.7 RPG. Burak Eslik (10.7 PPG), Christian Ellis (10.4 PPG; 3.4 RPG) and Carlos Anderson (10.0 PPG; 4.4 RPG) aren’t far behind for SIU Edwardsville. Keenan Simmons leads the Cougars in rebounding with 8.7 RPG and 7.4 PPG.
As for the Hoosiers, they’re entering play here with a nice 5-1 record. Indiana started out the year with a win over Kansas, then took out Mass Lowell and Liberty. The Hoosiers’ one loss came against Fort Wayne, but then they came back with wins over Mississippi Valley State and North Carolina on Wednesday.
James Blackmon Jr. leads the Hoosiers in scoring this year with 19.2 PPG and 7.4 RPG. Robert Johnson, Thomas Bryant and OG Anunoby are also averaging in double figures for Indiana; Johnson has 13.3 PPG with 4.0 RPG, Bryant has 13.3 PPG with 8.0 RPG and Anunoby holds 12.5 PPG with 6.0 RPG.
SIU Edwardsvile is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a straight up win, and the under is 2-0-2 in the Cougars’ last four road games. The over is 3-1-1 in SIU Edwardsville’s last five games following a straight-up win, and is also 7-3-2 in the Cougars’ last 12 overall.
Indiana has been very impressive this year, rattling off wins over nationally ranked teams Kansas and North Carolina. The Fort Wayne game seems to be an anomaly, and at least the Hoosiers took that one to overtime. SIU Edwardsville shouldn’t provide much of a challenge here, so I’ll take Indiana to cover.
