We’ve got a great college basketball matchup coming on Wednesday evening as the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Michigan State Spartans square off at Jack Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing.
Minnesota enters play here with a 15-2 record on the season. The Golden Gophers last lost December 27 (against Michigan State, coincidentally), but since then have beaten Purdue, Northwestern and Ohio State.
USA TODAY Sports
Leading the way in scoring for Minnesota this season are Nate Mason (14.4 PPG; 5.7 APG) and Amir Coffey (12.8 PPG). Also averaging in double-figures for the Golden Gophers are Dupree McBrayer (12.1 PPG) and Jordan Murphy (10.6 PPG; 8.5 RPG).
Over on the Michigan State side, they’re coming in with an 11-6 record on the season. The Spartans are 4-1 in their last five games, beating Oakland, Minnesota, Northwestern and Rutgers while losing to Penn State in that time.
Miles Bridges is the leading scorer for Michigan State so far this year, with 14.3 PPG and 8.2 RPG. Nick Ward (13.8 PPG; 6.6 RPG) and Eron Harris (12.6 PPG) are also averring in double-figures for the Spartans.
Minnesota is 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win, and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. Minnesota is also 15-32-1 ATS in their last 48 road games, and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, Michigan State is 4-0 ATS in their last four Wednesday games, and 15-3 ATS in their last 18 versus the Big 10. Michigan State is also 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.
This should be a great game to watch for any basketball fan. These two teams are pretty evenly matched across the board and it should be another close one. The last time Michigan State and Minnesota met the Spartans escaped with a 75-74 OT win, so the Gophers will be primed up and looking for revenge here. I can’t totally trust Michigan State right now, as they’ve had a couple of hiccups lately (like the 81-73 loss at home to Northeastern). If pressed to pick, I’ll go with the Gophers to even things up and cover.
