We have some MAAC-tion on the college basketball slate Friday night, as the Fairfield Stags square off against the Quinnipiac Bobcats.
The Fairfield Stags will be looking to build some momentum heading into the conference tournament after winning 5 of their last 6 games, including a 69-67 win over Rider last time out. The Quinnipiac Bobcats will be looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses to Saint Peter’s and in their last outing, Rider, by a final score of 112-107. Chaise Daniels led the Bobcats with 23 points on an efficient 11 of 13 shooting from the floor while chipping in 5 assists and a pair of steals. Phil Winston came 2nd with 19 points on 4 of 8 from the floor while adding 10 makes in 13 trips to the foul line and a team-high 8 assists. Peter Kiss and Andrew Robinson each logged 17 points, with Kiss going 7 of 16 with 3 threes and a team-high 8 rebounds and 4 steals, while Robinson did the majority of his damage from behind the arc, hitting 5 of 9 3-point attempts in just 10 minutes on the floor. Mikey Dixon added 5 triples of his own for 15 points, while Reggie Oliver added 6 assists in the losing effort for the Bobcats. Dixon leads the Bobcats with an average of 16.2 points per game, while Daniels leads Quinnipiac on the glass with 6 rebounds per game and Winston is the team’s top assist man, dishing out 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Quinnipiac is scoring 76.6 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the arc and 67.6% from the foul line this season.
Fairfield is 5-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the under is 20-6-1 in their last 27 games overall. Quinnipiac is 9-3-2 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 10-3-2 ATS in their last 15 conference matchups while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 games following a loss. The road team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
As impressive as Quinnipiac’s offensive outburst was, they’re still struggling to find ways to win. I mean the game before they put up only 45 points, while Fairfield on the other hand is starting to pick up steam in a big way. Add in the fact that the road team has dominated most of the success against the spread in this matchup, I feel like the only option here is to back Fairfield.
