The Xavier Musketeers faceoff with the Arizona Wildcats in a Sweet 16 match up of the NCAA college basketball tournament.
The Xavier Musketeers haven’t been mentioned all that much but through the years I have learned that this team is built for the NCAA tournament. The Musketeers are proving to be a tough out once again as the hammered Florida State 91-66 in a Field of 32 match up to advance to the Sweet 16. The seven point underdog Musketeers jumped to a ten point edge at the break and continued to keep the hammer down over the final 20 minutes behind a 55.6%-40% shooting advantage with six more buckets, more free throws and an 11-17 effort on threes. Trevon Bluiette paced the Xavier attack with a game high 29 points and six pulls with Kaiser Gates adding 14 points and five yanks. Tyrique Jones gave the Musketeers 13 points while JP Macura and Sean O’Mara combined for 21 points.
USA TODAY Sports
The Arizona Wildcats are no strangers to the national scene in the world of college basketball as they continue to pile up wins. The Wildcats moved on to the Sweet 16 after downing Saint Mary’s 69-60 as a 4.5 point favorite with a 40-30 second half run being the difference. Both teams connected at 45%-46% but Arizona won with 14 more makes at the charity stripe with the Gaels held to just eight shots at the line. Lauri Markkanen paced a balanced Wildcats offense with 16 points and eleven rebounds on 3-6 from the floor with Allonzo Trier adding 14 points and six pulls on 4-10 shooting. Dusan Ristic gave the Wildcats 13 points on 6-9 from the floor while Kadeem Allen tossed in another 12 points on 5-9 from the field.
The over is 6-2 in Xavier last 8 vs. Pacific-12 and Xavier are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Thursday games. The under is 10-4 in Arizona last 14 games as a favorite.
It’s tough to lay he chalk with the Musketeers being so tough in the NCAA tournament but I am and not liking the number…
