The Line: Bradley Braves -8 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The IUPUI Jaguars and Bradley Braves meet Saturday in college basketball action at the Carver Arena.
The IUPUI Jaguars leave the Summit for the Horizon and hope to make a statement in the fourth season under coach Jason Gardner. The concern for the Jags this season is that they lose their top-three players and both double-digit scorers from a year ago, making Ron Patterson their top returning player. Patterson is now a senior guard who transferred from Syracuse and averaged 9.3 points and 2.3 assists while shooting 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. Aaron Brennan is a senior forward who shot extremely well from the field in limited minutes and Evan Hall has double-double potential if he sees the court more often this season. The IUPUI Jaguars haven’t finished with at least a .500 record since 2010-11, so there are goals for this team in its first year in a new conference. The IUPUI Jaguars have lost six of their last nine road games.
USA TODAY Sports
The Bradley Braves have nowhere to go but up after winning just 18 games the last two seasons and the pressure has to start building for coach Brian Wardle in his third year. If there was ever a season to turn things around, it’s this year, as Bradley returns its top nine scorers from last season, including Darrell Brown, JoJo McGlaston and Donte Thomas, a trio that produced 27.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists last season. Now that those players have a full season of playing together and when you throw in distance shooters such as Luuk van Bree and Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, the Braves are a team to watch in the MVC. The Bradley Braves have a lot to be excited about this season, which is something we haven’t been able to say in a while. The Bradley Braves have split their last 10 home games.
Will update with trends when / if they're released.
I have big expectations for the Bradley Braves, as they return a chunk of last years squad and guys who can contribute at a high level, so there are no excuses this season. After full struggle mode the last couple of years, it's time to take a step forward. The IUPUI Jaguars have to figure out a new rotation with some of their key players no longer around, and Patterson can only do so much. This is a chance for the Bradley Braves to get off to a quick start and build some confidence. I'll side with the Bradley Braves by double digits on their home court.
