The Line: UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos -2 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos begin the college basketball season with the North Dakota Bison.

The North Dakota State Bison have been one of the faces of the Summit League for a number years and the team wants that trend to continue when the season begins with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. North Dakota State is pegged as a top four finisher in the conference after a 19-11 finish in 2017-18. The Bison were able to score the basketball at nearly 75 points on 45.8% marksmanship while allowing 71.5 points on 42.9%.

UC-Santa Barbara vs. North Dakota State - 11/11/17 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

North Dakota State star Paul Miller can do everything with a team high  16.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. Fellow guard AJ Jacobson brings back 10.6 points and 5.5 boards while Tyson Ward rounds out a solid backcourt with 5.8 points. The Bison need a few relative unknowns to step up with Dexter Werner and Khy Kabellis taking a combined 23 points to graduation.

The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are certainly not a household name on the national level but the team has done well at times before falling off the map. The Gauchos suffered through a dreadful 2016-17 campaign with a 6-26 record that was punctuated by struggles at the offensive end of the floor. UCSB scored 60.8 points on a mere 37.7% shooting which had zero chance of success with the opposition averaging 71 points on 44.7% accuracy.

Santa Barbara gets back leading scorer Gabe Vincent and his 14.7 points while Jalen Canty and Ami Lakoju combined for 18 points and 13.7 boards in an injury shortened 2016-17. Graduate transfer Marcus Jackson (Rice) takes over at the point while Nevada transfer Leland King should step in immediately and give the Gauchos more muscle on the glass.

Over is 17-5 in North Dakota State last 22 overall  and North Dakota State are 17-37-1 ATS in their last 55 road games. Under is 10-1 in UCSB last 11 home games and under is 20-5-2 in UCSB last 27 Saturday games and under is 19-6-1 in UCSB last 26 overall.

I thought North Dakota state might be small chalk and I would have backed them but they are getting a bucket or so. The Bison are really a bad cover team on the road but this game has to be won…
