The Cal Golden Bears host instate rival the Cal Poly Mustangs in Sunday college basketball action.

The Cal Poly Mustangs were given little chance against the Stanford Cardinals as a 19 point underdog on Saturday and it turned out to be the case. Cal Poly fell behind by 14 points at the half and traded baskets over a competitive second half. The Mustangs struggled to defend the shot with Stanford hitting at 49% while losing the battle on the glass 31-20. Cal Poly sank shots at 38.3% including a 10-25 mark from long range but 24 fouls turned in to a decisive 17-6 advantage for the Cardinal.

The Mustangs could not stop Reid Travis who scored a contest high 26 points with nine rebounds  on 9-16 from the floor. The Mustangs received a team high 21 points, six boards and five assists from Donovan Fields who sank 9-16 from the field while  Victor Joseph connected on 6-19 for 17 points. Luke Meikle gave Cal Poly nine points and five yanks and hit 3-9.

The Cal Golden Bears are rebuilding after losing the vast majority of their talent from a season ago and we saw a squad struggling out of the gate in a 74-66 loss to UC Riverside as a 13.5 point favorite. Cal looks to bounce back against another Big West foe in the Cal Poly Mustangs. The Highlanders jumped to a surprising 40-21 lead after 20 minutes and then held off a second half Golden Bears comeback.

The Cal defense allowed 40% shooting but the real struggles were at the offensive end of the floor were the team hit shots at only 30.6% including a 4-16 effort from long range. Don Hamilton poured in a game high 28 points on 9-28 from the field with Justice Sueing adding 14 points and five yanks. Marcus Lee scored eight points and hauled in 10 rebounds while Kingsley Okoroh chipped in with five points and led Cal with 18 rebounds.

Under is 8-1 in Cal Poly[ last 9 non-conference games and Cal Poly are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games and over is 6-2 in Cal Poly last 8 road games.

I think Cal is better then we saw from them versus the Highlanders. Cal Poly is better then UC Riverside so perhaps something small on the Mustangs…
