Down at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights on Monday, the Western Carolina Catamounts and the Cincinnati Bearcats will be meeting up in college basketball activity.
Western Carolina is coming off a pretty disappointing 9-23 record last year. That mark includes losing streaks of five and six games at different points during the season. The Catamounts did go 2-2 to close out the year on a relative high note, however,
USA TODAY Sports
In their first outing this year against Clemson on Friday, the Catamounts posted an 85-57 loss. In that game, Western Carolina had just one double-digit scorer in Haboubacar Mutombo, who had 10 points, three rebounds and one assist. The Catamounts starters combined for just 36 points overall.
On the Cincinnati side, they managed to go 29-5 in pre-tournament play last season, and in one stretch won 15 straight games. The Bearcats posted a win over Kansas State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, but lost to UCLA 79-67 in the second.
Cincinnati started out things well in their opener, bagging a 107-77 win over Savannah State. The top scorer for the Bearcats in that one was Jacob Evans with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Justin Jenifer also provide 15 points and five assists off the bench.
The over is 3-1-1 in the Bearcats’ last five overall and the under is 4-0 in their last four Monday games. Cincinnati is 5-0 ATS in their last five games as a favorite and 4-0 ATS in their last four home games.
Meanwhile, the Catamounts are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Monday games and 4-12 ATS int heir last 16 road games. The over is 4-1 in the Catamounts’ last five road games and 5-2 in the last seven Monday games.
Realistically speaking, there’s no way Western Carolina is going to get close in this game, especially with the tepid offensive output from their opening game. Cincinnati should come out and dominate from beginning to end so I’m taking the Bearcats for a cover.
