Monday college basketball action feature a bout between the Old Dominion Monarchs and the James Madison Dukes.
The Old Dominion Monarchs open 2017-18 with their second straight CAA foe in the James Madison Dukes on Monday. Old Dominion squeezed by the Hofstra Pride 57-54 as a five point favorite to begin the year 1-0. Defense and a slow pace ruled this matchup with ODU allowing 34.5% shooting with Zane Martin carrying the Pride with a game high 22 points and seven boards on 8-19 from the floor with four long balls.

The Monarchs sank shots at 41.4% with 16 forced turnovers although coming up short on the glass by a 40-29 mark. BJ Stith paced Old Dominion on the scoreboard with 15 points on 7-12 from the floor with Ahmad Caver adding ten points and five yanks on 4-14 while Xavier Green chipped in with nine points on 3-5 shooting.
The James Madison Dukes opened the season with a leisurely 80-50 rout of subdivision Bridgewater (VA). James Madison faces former conference foe the Old Dominion Monarchs in game two on Monday night. The Dukes limited the Eagles to 29.5% from the floor and owned a +22 margin on the backboards. JMU was sloppy with the basketball with a hefty 20 giveaways although it didn’t matter in such a large blowout.
Stuckey Mosely poured in a contest high 22 points on 8-14 from the field including a 4-8 performance from distance. The duo of Matt Davis and Joey McLean tallied 14 points apiece with McLean giving ODU five pulls. The Monarchs received nine and eight points respectively Gerron Scissum and Darius Banks respectively with Scissum bringing down seven rebounds.
Over is 8-1 in ODU last 9 road games and under is 23-8 in ODU last 31 non-conference games and ODU are 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 Monday games. Over is 10-4 in James Madison last 14 overall and over is 11-5-1 in James Madison last 17 Monday games. Road team is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings.
I think the biggest question is will Old Dominion score consistently to cover because the defense will hold their own…
