The UC Davis Aggies will travel to Bank of Colorado Arena to take on the Northern Colorado Bears this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The UC Davis Aggies will look to repeat the success of their 2016-17 season win which the finished the year with a 23-13 record, which included a trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big West Conference. UC Davis earned the 2-seed in the Big West Tournament after finishing conference play with a 11-5 overall record and punched their NCAA Ticket after defeating the top-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters, 50-47, in the championship game. UD Davis won their First Four matchup in the NCAA Tournament against North Carolina Central, however, didn’t last any longer after being easily defeated by the Kansas Jayhawks, 100-62, in the 1st round. UD Davis lost a lot of talent from last year’s squad in leading scorer Brynton Lemar (16.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.6 apg), Lawrence White (7.7 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Darius Graham (7.3 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.1 apg), and J.T. Adenrele (5.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg). The good news for the Aggies is that they are returning arguably the best play in the Big West in Chima Moneke (14.6 ppg, 9.5 rpg). UC Davis will count on Siler Schneider (10.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.0 apg) to take a bigger role in the offense and count more heavily on Garrison Goode (2.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) and Joe Mooney (2.3 ppg).

The Northern Colorado Bears had a hard time finding offense in their season opener and fell to 0-1 on the season after being defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes, 66-51, this past Friday. Northern Colorado shot just 32.3% from the field and 16.2% (6-37) from beyond the arc and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 35-24 margin at halftime. Leading the way for Bears was Andre Spight who had 19 points on 8-26 shooting, while also grabbing 8 boards. Also contributing for the Bears was Anthony Johnson (7 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal) and Jonah Radebaugh (11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal). Northern Colorado finished last season with just an 11-18 overall record, however, are no longer on probation and are excited that they have Anthony Johnson (15.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg) and Tanner Morgan (4.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg) who redshirted last season due to the probation. Northern Colorado returned starters Jordan Davis (19.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.6 apg) and Jonah Radebaugh (7.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg) and have to be thrilled will they production that they got from Andre Spight who transferred to Northern Colorado after playing for Arizona State last season.
The Aggies finished last season with a 18-13-1 ATS record and are 6-8 ATS in their last 14 road games. The Bears finished last season with a 12-13 ATS record and are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 home games.
UC Davis had a major roster turnover this past season and although they should once again be tough on the defensive side of the ball, they’ll need to find some scoring to complement their best player, Chima Moneke. Northern Colorado struggled offensively against the more talented Colorado Buffaloes, however, the Bears should be a better team this season and look like they have a great player in Andre Spight. UC Davis has a lot of question marks coming into this season and as I did like what I saw from the Bears on the defensive side of the court against the Buffaloes, I think Northern Colorado will cover this small spread at home.
