Down in Stillwater at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Monday, the Charlotte 49ers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Charlotte is coming off a pretty disappointing 13-17 season. After starting out 6-2, the 49ers lost seven of their next eight games to fall to 7-9. Charlotte lost eight of their final 11 games to close out the year.
USA TODAY Sports
Charlotte is currently 1-0 after taking their opener in a 116-76 rout over Methodist. In that game, Austin Ajukwa posted 18 points with a rebound and two steals, and Milos Supica led the 49ers in bench scoring with 18 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Over on the Oklahoma State side, they’re coming off a 20-12 season. The Cowboys started out 10-2 before a six-game losing streak, but then righted the ship and won 10 of their next 11 games. After three straight losses to close out the year, Oklahoma State lost to Michigan in the first round of the national tournament 92-91.
The Cowboys started things out this year on a high note with a 78-47 win over Pepperdine. Lindy Waters led Oklahoma State in scoring with 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Thomas Dziagwa led the bench players with 12 points and an assist.
The over is 4-1 in the Cowboys’ last five overall and 9-3-1 in their last 13 home games. Oklahoma State is also 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday games and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
Meanwhile, the under is 6-1 in the 49ers’ last seven road games and 7-3 in their last 10 Monday games. Charlotte is also 5-16 ATS in their last 21 road games and 3-10 in their last 13 games as a road underdog.
Charlotte looked pretty impressive in their opening-night win, but they were also playing against some pretty sub-par competition. Oklahoma State will prove to be a much more formidable opponent, and though the Cowboys seemed to take their foot off the gas in their first game, I expect them to come out and assert their dominance here. I’ll take Oklahoma State for a cover.
