The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles will travel to the Reynolds Center to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles opened their season with a solid victory after defeating the NAIA Avila Eagles, 86-72, this past Friday. Oral Roberts was outstanding on the offensive end in the 1st half which helped the Golden Eagles to take an 86-72 lead, and held off the Eagles in the 2nd half. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was Albert Owens who had 23 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and an assist. Also contributing for the Golden Eagles was Austin Ruder (15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist) and Emmanuel Nzekwesi (10 points, 7 rebounds). After back to back losing season, which included an overall record of just 8-22 last season, Oral Roberts decided to go in a different direction and hired Paul Mills to take over head coach duties. Oral Roberts should be able to build around a strong starting front court in Albert Owens (17.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 bpg) and Emmanuel Nzekwesi (9.8 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.2 apg) who earned Summit Freshman of the Year honors last season. The Golden Eagles will hope that that returning big man, Javan White, can be a key player from off the bench and that Austin Ruder, who transferred from Missouri State, can come in and make an immediate impact.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane came into this season with a lot of confidence with the majority of their talent returning this season, however, the Golden Hurricane got off to a bad start to their season after losing at home to the Lamar Cardinals, 74-67. Tulsa had no answers on the offensive end in the 1st half and couldn’t fight back after they went into halftime trailing by a 37-28 margin. Leading the way for the Golden Hurricane was Sterling Taplin who finished the game with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. Also contributing for the Golden Hurricane was DaQuan Jeffries (12 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 2 steals) and Martins Igbanu (12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assists). Tulsa finished last season with just an overall record of 15-17 (8-10 AAC) however, with their top three scorers back from last season in Junior Etou (12.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.3 apg), Jaleel Wheeler (9.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Sterling Taplin (9.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.8 apg), the Golden Hurricane are in solid shape to become more of a force in the AAC this season. Tulsa will hope that Martins Igbanu (6.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and Corey Henderson Jr. (8.7 ppg, 1.2 apg) can play key roles off the bench this season and that newcomer, Curran Scott can provide some meaningful minutes after transferring from Charlotte.
The Golden Eagles finished last season with an 11-15-2 ATS record and was just 5-8-1 ATS as an away team. The Golden Hurricane finished last season with a 16-15 ATS record and is 6-3 ATS in their last 9 games as a home favorite.
Oral Roberts will have some size that will be able to compete with teams this season however, this is still a team that is currently rebuilding and probably a few years away from becoming contenders in the Summit League once again. Tulsa opened their season with an awful performance, however, the Golden Hurricane are an experienced team that should be able to put it together in one. I think Tulsa will come out of the gates better than what they showed in their season opener and that they cover this double-digit spread at home.
