Down at Cintas Center in Cincinnati on Monday, the Rider Broncs and the Xavier Musketeers will be meeting up in college basketball activity.
Rider is coming off a season in which they finished 18-15 overall. The Broncs started out pretty well at 11-5, but then hit the skids with nine losses in their next 12 games. Rider did post a four-game win streak late in the year but lost to Iona to close things out.

The Broncs kicked the year off with a win, taking a 90-75 effort over Hampton. In that game, Jordan Allen led the way with 21 points, four rebounds, an assist and two steals. Stevie Jordan also had a nice outing with 17 points, six assists, two steals and three rebounds.
Over on the Xavier side, they went 21-13 in pre-tournament play last year, starting things out at 18-6 before skidding to a six-game losing streak that was part of seven losses in their final 10 games. In the NCAA Tourney, Xavier took care of Maryland, Florida State and Arizona but lost to Gonzaga in the Elite Eight.
Xavier started out this year with a dominant 101-49 victory over Morehead State, outscoring their opponents 62-24 in the first half. Leading the scoring for the Musketeers was Travon Bluiett, who had 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. JP Macura also pitched in with 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and five steals.
The under is 6-2-1 in the Musketeers’ last nine overall and 4-0 in their last four Monday games. Xavier is 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, Rider is 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The under is 37-15 in the Broncs’ last 52 road games and 6-0 in their last six Monday games.
I expect Rider to post a fairly solid season overall this year, but drawing Xavier so early on in the schedule is definitely going to serve as a brick wall. Xavier has several different guys who can score almost at will, and I have a hard time thinking the Broncs are going to get close. I’ll take Xavier for the victory and cover here.
