Down in Tallahassee at Donald L. Tucker Center on Tuesday, the George Washington Colonials and the Florida State Seminoles will be meeting up in college basketball action.
George Washington is coming off a moderately successful year, going 19-14 in pre-tournament play. That run included a six-game win streak that brought the Colonials from a .500 team to a CBI entry. In that tourney, George Washington beat Toledo in the first round and fell to UIC in the second.

George Washington kicked off the year with a solid win, taking out Howard 84-75. The top Colonials scorer in that one was Yuta Watanabe, who had 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists with seven blocks. Bo Zeigler provided 16 points off the bench for George Washington.
Over on the Florida State side, they managed to go 25-8 ahead of the national tournament last year, a run that included a 12-game win streak that helped them start out 16-1. The Seminoles beat Florida Gulf Coast in the first round of the NCAA Tournament but lost to Xavier in the second.
Florida State will look quite different this season, as their top three scorers have moved on in Dwayne Bacon (17.2 PPG; 4.2 RPG), Jonathan Isaac (12.0 PPG; 7.8 RPG) and Xavier Rathan-Mayes (10.6 PPG; 4.8 APG). That will leave a larger role for Terance Mann (10.6 PPG; 4.8 APG) to step into for the Seminoles this year.
Florida State is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games as a favorite. The Seminoles are also 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall and the over is 8-3-1 in their last 12 home games.
Meanwhile, George Washington is 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games overall. The Colonials are also 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games as a road underdog and the over is 7-2 in their last nine road games.
George Washington has some genuine talent on their roster this year, specifically Watanabe, who should grow into a team leader this season. As for Florida State, they’re dealing with a lot of turnover, but that’s something they’re used to. Still, until I see the Seminoles in action I don’t feel confident having them cover these big spreads, so I’m taking the Colonials here.
