The CS Fullerton Titans will travel to McKeon Pavilion to take on the 21st ranked Saint Mary’s Gaels this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The CS Fullerton Titans will be looking for their 1st win of the season after being defeated by the 10th ranked USC Trojans, 84-42, this past Friday. CS Fullerton was dominated on both ends of the court in this one and had no chance to fight back after falling behind by a 42-15 margin at halftime. CS Fullerton really struggled on the offensive end as the Titans shot just 23.3% from the field and 10.5% (2-19) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Titans was Jackson Rowe who had 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Also contributing for CS Fullerton was Khalil Ahmad (9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist) and Arkim Robertson (5 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block). CS Fullerton finished last season with a solid 17-15 (10-6 Big West) record and although they didn’t show in their opening matchup this season, have a lot of young talent returning in Jackson Rowe (10.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.9 apg), Kyle Allman (10.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Khalil Ahmad (11.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg). CS Fullerton no longer has Tre Coggins (17.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg) who led the Titans in scoring last season, however, will hope that Austin Awosika (6.1 ppg, 2.7 rpg) and Davon Clare (2.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg) can take on bigger roles in the offense this season.

The 21st ranked Saint Mary’s Gaels (2-0) will look to make it three straight wins to start the season after they defeated the New Mexico State Aggies, 92-74, this past Monday. Saint Mary’s got a battle from New Mexico State and only led by a 47-42 margin at halftime, however, used a 9-0 run midway through the 2nd half to take a 74-59 lead and led comfortably the rest of the way. Saint Mary’s was outstanding on the offensive end as the Gaels shot 55.0% from the field and 50.0% (7-14) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was Jock Landale who had a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. On the season, Saint Mary’s is averaging 85.0 ppg on 53.8% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 12.0 three-pointers per game on 46.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Saint Mary’s has been led by Jock Landale (16.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 3.0 apg), Calvin Hermanson (20.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.5 apg), and Emmett Naar (15.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 8.5 apg). Defensively, Saint Mary’s is holding their opponents to an average of 68.0 ppg on 48.1% shooting from the field. The Gaels currently have a rebound margin of 14.0 and have a turnover margin of -1.0.
The Titans are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up loss and just 19-14-1 ATS in their last 61 road games. The Gaels are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big West opponents and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
CS Fullerton has one of the tougher opening season schedule with games at USC and Saint Mary’s, however, although the Titans looked pretty awful against USC, this is a team that some talent and should be a contender in the Big West this season. Saint Mary’s has the best player in the WCC in big-man Jock Landale and experienced line-up that argument make the Gaels the team to beat in the WCC this season. Saint Mary’s is an outstanding team, however, this is a ton of points for the Gaels to lay down and as I think the Titans will bring a much better performance than what we say from them in their opener, I’m taking the Titans and the points.
