Down in Fort Worth at Schollmaier Arena on Wednesday, the South Dakota Coyotes and the TCU Horned Frogs will be meeting up in college basketball activity.
South Dakota has opened up the year with a pair of wins so far, taking an 87-59 win over Mayville State in the opener and an 88-79 win over Bowling Green on Monday. In that one, Matt Mooney led the Coyotes on 26 points with five rebounds and seven assists.
USA TODAY Sports
Through South Dakota’s two games so far this year, Mooney leads the way on 19.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 5.0 APG. Also averaging in double-figures for the Coyotes are Tyler Hagedorn (13.0 PPG; 4.5 RPG) and Carlton Hurst (11.5 PPG; 7.5 RPG).
Over on the TCU side, they’re currently 2-0 as well with wins over UL Monroe 83-73 and Tennessee Tech 100-63 in their first pair of games. In that Tennessee Tech game, Desmond Bane topped the TCU scorers with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists.
In the first pair of Frogs’ games so far this year, Bane is averaging 18.0 PPG with 4.5 RPG and 4.0 APG. JD Miller (14.5 PPG; 6.0 RPG), Vladimir Brodziansky (13.5 PPG; 3.0 RPG) and Kouat Noi (11.0 PPG; 5.5 RPG) are also averaging in double-figures for TCU so far.
The Coyotes are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games versus a team with a winning straight-up record and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. South Dakota is also 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games following a straight-up win and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win.
Meanwhile, TCU is 5-0 ATS int heir last five games following a straight-up win and 5-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games. The Frogs are also 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win.
TCU has a handful of capable scorers this year and should be able to do some damage on their schedule. That said, South Dakota also has a few decent names who have the capability of keeping this game close. The line is a little thicker than I’d like; I feel like TCU will win but the Coyotes will cover.
