We have non-conference college basketball action on Wednesday night, as the Central Arkansas Bears face off against the #23 UCLA Bruins from Pauley Pavilion.
The Central Arkansas Bears will look to pull off what would be considered a massive upset after improving to 1-1 with a 99-51 over the University of the Ozarks. Jordan Howard led the team with 24 points on 10 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes and 3 steals. Hayden Koval came 2nd with 12 points and a share of the team lead with 6 rebounds in addition to his 4 blocks, while Mathieu Kamba and Deandre Jones each logged 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the Bears in the win. Thatch Unruh led the team with 6 assists, while Jared Chatham added 6 boards of his own. The #23 UCLA Bruins will look to remain unbeaten after escaping with a 63-60 win over Georgia Tech in Shanghai, China on Friday. Kris Wilkes led the team with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 4 threes, as Jaylen Hands came 2nd with 14 points and a pair of steals. Aaron Holiday added 11 points and a team-high 7 assists along with 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the win to round out the double-digit scoring for the Bruins in the win. As a team, UCLA is scoring an average of 63 points per game on 40.7% shooting from the field, 35.7% from behind the 3-point line and 66.7% from the charity stripe this season.
Central Arkansas is 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 road games and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 games overall. UCLA is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games following a win.
Now that this saga off the court is nearing it’s end, I think the Bruins will finally be able to get focused on basketball now that they’re back home. Central Arkansas got a win under their belt, but the Ozarks are a far cry from what UCLA is going to bring to the table. The Bears were throttled by 41 against Baylor in their only other D-I matchup this season, and I think we see more of the same as Central Arkansas just doesn’t have the horses to keep up with UCLA here as the Bruins roll to victory.
