The St. Joseph’s Hawks meet the Sacramento State Hornets in the Wooden Legacy college basketball tournament.
There is plenty of season left to go but the St. Joseph’s Hawks need a win after dropping consecutive contests following a 77-71 loss to the Harvard Crimson as a three point favorite. St. Joseph’s trailed by six at the half and traded baskets over the final 20 minutes. The game was competitive despite the Hawks falling short in the shooting battle 46.4%-36.1%.

James Demery led the St. Joes attack with 18 points and ten rebounds along with three steals on 7-18 shooting in 39 minutes. Pierfrancesco Oliva gave the Hawks 16 points and another eight boards on 6-9 from the floor followed by Taylor Funk with eleven points and nine rebounds.
The Sacramento State Hornets have had their share of problems at both ends of the floor and the result is reflected in their 1-5 record. Sacramento State has dropped four in a row following a 68-65 loss to Cal St. Fullerton in the Wooden Legacy on Friday. The Hornets were outshot 52.4%-40.6% with 22 more looks at the basket negated with the Titans sinking 16 more free throws.
Justin Strings was the top Sacramento State offensive option with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists on 9-23 shooting followed by Jordan Tolbert with 15 points on 6-8 from the field. Joshua Patton gave the Hornets eight points with Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa logging a game high 12 helpers.
Under is 9-3 in St. Joes last 12 Sunday games and over is 6-2 in St. Joes last 8 non-conference games and St. Joes are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. Sacramento State are 17-6 ATS in their last 23 games overall.
For some reason I don’t like St. Joseph’s as a big favorite but it’s the only choice in this matchup…
