The Davidson Wildcats lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-2 on the season after being defeated by the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 78-62, this past Saturday. Davidson surprisingly struggled on the offensive side of the ball in the 1st half and couldn’t fight back after trailing by a 36-23 margin at halftime. Davidson shot 40.0% from the field and 27.3% (9-33) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Peyton Aldridge who had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, Davidson is averaging 87.0 ppg on 47.3% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 15.3 three-pointers per game on 39.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Davidson has been led by Peyton Aldridge (21.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 3.3 apg), Jon Axel Gudmundsson (16.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.0 apg), Kellan Grady (14.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.0 apg), and Rusty Riegel (6.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.5 spg). The Charlotte 49ers won their 2nd straight game and improved to 3-2 on the season after defeating the High Point Panthers, 70-67, this past Saturday. Charlotte was solid on the offensive end for most of the game, however, held off the Panthers after being held scoreless for the final 3:58 of regulation. Charlotte shot 48.9% from the field and 44.4% (4-9) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the 49ers was Hudson Price who had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. On the season, Charlotte is averaging 81.2 ppg on 49.5% shooting from the field. The 49ers are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 44.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charlotte has been led by Jon Davis (15.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.8 apg, 1.4 spg), Najee Garvin (11.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Andrien White (10.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.0 spg), and Milos Supica (9.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg). Defensively, Charlotte is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The 49ers have a rebound margin of 2.4 and a turnover margin of 2.0.
The Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. C-USA opponents and 21-6 ATS in their last 27 Tuesday games. The 49ers are 17-8-1 ATS in their last 26 home games, however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
Davidson has one of the best duos in the A-10 in Peyton Aldridge and Jon Axel Gudmundsson and although they have one of the more explosive offenses in the country, the Wildcats can struggle on the defensive end as they rank 236th in scoring defense and 304th in defensive FG%. Charlotte has been known for their offense under head coach Mark Price, and although they’ve done a better job on the glass this season, the 49ers still have struggled a bit defensively as they rank 254th in scoring defense and 275th in defensive FG%. This should be a high scoring game, however, as I liked how the 49ers played against a good defensive team in the Charleston Cougars, I think the 49ers do enough at home to cover with the points.
